If you find yourself wandering through Hobart, especially around the Royal Hobart Hospital, make sure to step into the vibrant world of Pounds and Ounces Cafe. Nestled conveniently on the ground floor of K Block at the hospital, this charming cafe quickly establishes itself as a must-visit destination for coffee enthusiasts and food lovers alike.

With a menu that’s both inviting and carefully curated, Pounds and Ounces offers a delightful array of options. Their House Blend Coffee Beans can be taken home for A$60.50, ensuring you can enjoy that café-quality brew anytime. For a sweet pick-me-up, indulge in a luscious Passionfruit Yoghurt Cup paired with fresh passionfruit pulp for A$8.80, or savor the richness of their Chocolate Chia Pudding, a vegan delight filled with almond milk, granola, and a touch of freshness from raspberries for just A$9.40.

Yet, the star attractions reside in their savory offerings. Try the Fried Chicken Burger; it’s a perfect bite—crispy chicken nestled within a brioche bun, complemented by cheese, tomato, lettuce, and a spread of creamy mayonnaise for A$18.70. Or perhaps the satisfying BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, where juicy beef mingles with crispy bacon, grilled onion, and smoky BBQ sauce for an indulgent twist. Each bite is an experience that elevates standard café fare to something extraordinary.

The ambiance at Pounds and Ounces Cafe enhances your dining experience. The spacious layout and modern aesthetic create a warm, welcoming environment. Customers rave about the friendly service, with staff members going the extra mile to accommodate dietary needs, as in the case of loyal patron Kaitlyn Newport who appreciates the exceptional catering services. The vibrant atmosphere often sees a bustling crowd, especially with local nurses popping in for their daily caffeine fix, as mentioned by regular visitor Joanne Higgs.

Emily Joseph captures the essence perfectly: “Nice food and bright ambience makes it an Instagram-worthy place to enjoy your brunch.” If you're in search of a cozy location to enjoy fresh coffee, delicious food, and a sense of community, look no further than Pounds and Ounces Cafe.

Despite slight inconsistencies during busier times, like longer waits for food—highlighted by Jig Mischief—a trip to this cafe will always reward you with flavors worth savoring and a friendly smile to brighten your day. I have used Pounds & Ounces for catering a number of times, and each time I am so impressed and grateful for not just the quality of the delicious treats they provide, but also the service. Shristika and the team are so helpful, they go over and above for dietary requirements, are so responsive and nothing is too much trouble. A very safe, tasty option for any catering needs!

If you love your coffee then don't go passed this hidden gem. After frequent visits to the Royal Hobart Hospital did I realise it was there. Entrance is a walk up the steps from Campbell Street or take the lift. Its where the 15 min pick up/drop off area is. You can also get to it from the 'Admissions' way. I only had coffee so can't comment on the food but it was very busy, serving lots of nurses/ doctors, always a good sign.

Spacious cafe which I didn't expect until I visited! Newly designed, well arranged. Coffee was surprisingly nice and staff was super friendly too!

One of my favorites places to eat in Hobart. During the week, this place is a bustling spot, however in the weekends they can be understaffed, which means long waits for food. The food is always great, and worth the wait, but one fly in the ointment is serving nice coffee beans from El Salvador with white sugar sachets.. you might as well spit in it, mate. Get some raw sugar on your tables please, what year is this FFS.
